The Mortuary (fiction) Part 2

The man across from her was reading a Bible. She knew he was her uncle's grandfather-in-law. She had never met the man, though. Her uncle still had not arrived. Time was dragging. He was late to the funeral of the son he had neglected.

Had it really been only two days? Two days it had been since her world had shattered. Two days of living a waking nightmare. One middle of the day phone call ruined everything.

Everything was death. The world may have well as been a giant cemetery. Why didn't the world just stop and quiet?

Why did life go on like nothing had happened? Why was the stupid sun shining? Why was her grandmother chattering and laughing?

Finally, her uncle walked in. He looked tired. She stood and went to him, hugging him. Was it duty or love? There was no answer.
